Introduction
Vow – Wedding Planner ("Vow," "we," "us," or "our") is a wedding planning application developed for iOS. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use our app.
By using Vow, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the app.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
When you use Vow, you may provide the following information:
- Account credentials: Email address and password used to create an account and enable cloud sync.
- Partner names: The names of both partners in the couple.
- Wedding details: Wedding date, engagement date, wedding location (city or venue name), estimated guest count, and wedding style preference.
- Planning data: Milestones, to-do items, completion status, custom notes, and phase information you create within the app.
- Budget and expense data: Your total wedding budget and individual expense entries, including amounts, categories, dates, and notes.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device identifiers: Firebase Authentication assigns an anonymous unique identifier (UID) to your account, used to associate your wedding plan with your account.
- Invite and collaboration codes: If you share your plan with a partner, a randomly generated 6-character invite code is created and stored.
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
Vow does not collect:
- Precise location data or GPS coordinates
- Photos, camera, or microphone data
- Contacts or address book information
- Health or fitness data
- Financial account numbers, credit card numbers, or payment information
- Social Security numbers or government-issued ID numbers
- Biometric data (Face ID or Touch ID authentication is handled entirely by iOS and is never shared with us)
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and personalize the app: Generate a customized wedding planning roadmap, timeline, and milestone recommendations based on your wedding date, guest count, and style.
- Enable cloud sync and collaboration: Sync your wedding plan across devices and share it with your partner in real time via Firebase Firestore.
- Send local notifications: Schedule on-device reminders for upcoming milestones (3 days before and day-of). These notifications are generated locally on your device and do not transmit personal data to our servers.
- Calendar integration: With your permission, add milestones as events to your iOS Calendar. This requires read-write access to the calendar you select.
- Support account management: Allow you to sign in, sign out, reset your password, and manage your account.
- Sync with Google Drive (optional): If you connect Google Drive, we access a list of your Drive files for in-app reference. We do not upload your wedding data to Google Drive.
We do not use your data for:
- Advertising or marketing to third parties
- Behavioral profiling or analytics tracking
- Sale to data brokers or other third parties
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only as described below:
3.1 Firebase (Google LLC)
Vow uses Firebase, a platform provided by Google LLC, to power account authentication and cloud synchronization. When you create an account and enable sync, the following data is transmitted to and stored on Firebase servers:
- Partner names
- Wedding date, engagement date, location, guest count, and style preference
- Budget amount and expense entries
- Milestones and phases
- Account email address and Firebase UID
- Invite and collaborator codes
Firebase services used include Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore. Firebase operates under Google's Privacy Policy, which can be found at policies.google.com/privacy. Firebase stores data in Google Cloud infrastructure. Data may be stored and processed in the United States or other countries where Google operates data centers.
3.2 Google (Google Drive – Optional)
If you choose to connect Google Drive, we use Google's OAuth 2.0 protocol to request access to your Drive files. We read file metadata (names and identifiers) to display them in-app. We do not write to, upload to, or modify your Google Drive. Your Google account credentials are handled entirely by Google and are never stored by Vow. You can revoke this access at any time from your Google Account settings.
3.3 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal process, such as a subpoena, court order, or government request.
3.4 Partner Sharing (User-Initiated)
When you share an invite code with another person, they can link their account to your wedding plan and view and edit all shared planning data. You control whether to share your plan by choosing whether to generate and distribute an invite code.
4. Data Storage and Security
4.1 On-Device Storage
Your wedding data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData (backed by SQLite). iOS encrypts this database by default using AES encryption, tied to your device passcode.
4.2 Cloud Storage
When you create an account, data is also stored in Firebase Cloud Firestore. All data transmitted between the app and Firebase is encrypted in transit using TLS/HTTPS.
4.3 Security Measures
We take reasonable steps to protect your data, including:
- Encrypted local storage via iOS data protection
- Encrypted transmission via HTTPS/TLS to Firebase
- Firebase Authentication to ensure only authorized users can access your plan
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Data Retention
- On-device data is retained until you delete the app or your wedding plan data within the app.
- Cloud data is retained in Firebase as long as your account exists. You may request deletion of your cloud data by contacting us (see Section 9).
- Account data is retained until you delete your account.
6. Your Rights and Choices
6.1 Access and Correction
You can view and update your wedding details, milestones, and expenses directly within the app at any time.
6.2 Data Deletion
You may request deletion of your account and all associated cloud data by contacting us at the address below. Locally stored data can be removed by deleting the app from your device.
6.3 Notifications
You can enable or disable local push notifications at any time through your iOS device settings (Settings > Notifications > Vow).
